Ed Margerrison, Ph.D.

Dr. Margerrison serves as the Director of the Office of Science and Engineering Laboratories (OSEL) within the Centers for Device and Radiological Health at U.S. FDA. He leads 20 program areas, running about 150 research projects through multiple technical divisions, including Applied Mechanics, Biomedical Physics, Biology Chemistry and Materials Science and Imaging Diagnostics and Software Reliability.
Prior to joining FDA, Dr. Margerrison was an industry veteran. He served as President and CEO of Ortho RTI, a startup developing novel biomaterial approaches to surgical soft tissue repair. He spent more than five years at Zimmer Biomet in the position of Vice President of Biologics and nearly 20 years at Smith+Nephew in various research positions.
He gained his Ph.D. in Molecular Genetics from St George’s Hospital Medical School in London, UK.
