Dr. Bandyopadhyay is a Boeing Distinguished Professor in the School of Mechanical and Materials Engineering and an Affiliate Professor in the College of Medicine at Washington State University (WSU). He has written over 380 technical articles and edited 11 books and sits on the editorial boards of several research journals. Dr. Bandyopadhyay is the inventor of 21 issued patents. His research expertise focuses on additive manufacturing with an emphasis on bone implants and multi-material structures.

He is a recipient of the CAREER award from the National Science Foundation and the Young Investigator Award from the Office of Naval Research. He is a Fellow of the Society of Manufacturing Engineers (SME), American Ceramic Society, American Society for Materials (ASM), American Institute for Medical and Biological Engineering (AIMBE), American Association for the Advancement of Science (AAAS), National Academy of Inventors (NAI) and an elected member at the Washington State Academy of Science (WSAS). His work has been cited over 36,000 times.
